about V.S.G.
Violin Studio Geneva is a labour of love. Born in Geneva, Switzerland, in 2014, this unique, international watering hole, is a humble reflection of everything that goes on in the fascinating world of learning to play the violin from the very beginning, entering into the richly intertwined culture of its music, and of course, exploring all of it in the good company of other avid learners, aged 15-50. Whatever your musical dreams, you’re in exactly the right place to breathe life into them. And who knows, with a little sustained effort, you might even find yourself surpassing them and looking for more adventure sooner than you know! And that’s what we’re here for - to live the best life that we can, in the time that we have.
A wise man close to me once said: a person with just 5 square meters of gold in him can mine it all perhaps within a couple of days. Another person with 100 square meters of gold will take significantly longer. But if neither goes down underground and looks around to see what’s waiting to be found, nobody would be the wiser and the world around all of us would be so much the poorer. This is the wisdom that VSG lives by, each and every single day.
A true musician, whether by choice of vocation or by choice of lifestyle, spends their life mining, discovering, sharing his or her gold. And music isn’t just making correct notes in good time. It is sharing the pulse of human experience with other humans, who, if they have lived their lives, come to you after with a spark in their eyes, a recognition of something much deeper than anything this material world can offer. This, my friends, is the greatest gift we have been given, to be truly seen by another, and it’s thanks to the incredible music we have accidentally inherited (through no merit of ours other than that of birth, and then the consciousness that it exists), that we are able to achieve this.
We are creators of beautifully crafted sound. Miners of humanity’s invisible, but such valuable, gold.

Creator of this musical meeting place and tightly-knit community of musicians-in-the-making, and the voice behind everything that is written here, HI, I’M CHERYL!
I am an internationally trained violinist and fanatic believer of lifelong learning. Born in Singapore, I began my music-led travels in the United States, continuing on to Italy, then the lovely lake town Geneva, Switzerland, and currently call the peaceful little ‘hamlet’ in Ferney-Voltaire, France, my home, where I reside with my husband, CERN physicist and… pizza glutton.
In between growing under the tutelage of Master (capital-M!) Pedagogue close to Geneva, and, usually, several concerts throughout the year, I can be found here, developing methods and explanations to better serve my students, so that, not only are we making music, we’re developing such vital skills as self-respect, motor coordination, physical and mental balance, and of course, the ever-elusive ‘good taste’. After all, inspiration is everywhere - we just need to realise that we’re often already looking straight at it!
